    In Vogue

In Royal Oak, Michigan, a furniture studio of designers and fabricators recalls the past to look toward the future. Known as Vogue Furniture, the 1977-established furniture and millwork workshop is set in a newly renovated shop spanning nearly 45,000 square-feet—allotting plenty of room for new, ambitious projects. The calm, clean office space is full of dark wood hues and clean white walls; a setting ready for clients hoping to find anything from a new living room coffee table to a living space transformation.  “You’ll see there are very few examples of our work in [the office],” said Greg Bartelt, founder, owner, and lead designer at Vogue Furniture. “When the client…

    Under the tees

In Franklin, Michigan, the nationally-ranked greens and nearly century-old, clubhouse architecture of the Franklin Hills Country Club have been complemented by two modern—and major—additions, courtesy of Detroit architecture firm of McIntosh Poris Associates.  The two deliverables, comprising a 1,700-square-foot, subterranean, training facility and an extensive, pro shop renovation, invited many complexities and considerations to the project, which was finished in time for the 2019 spring-and-summer season, and in preparation for the club’s quieter cold months. The architectural team added modern amenities and comforts for the avid golfer year-round, while respecting the existing views and architectural character that club members have held dear.  “We had a long relationship with [Franklin Hills]…

    The Union at Railside

Beside its rapid business development, renowned craft beverages, and growing culinary scene, the Grand Rapids, Michigan area is also known for an eclectic mix of venues—from museums and breweries to gardens and multi-use markets—which also make it a popular regional wedding destination.  This past summer, the design of a new event venue, placed amid the rolling lawns and flowering trees of Railside Golf Club in Byron Center, Michigan, was added to the mix. It is distinguished by an up to 350-seat capacity and a barrier-free, panoramic view of the course’s ninth hole and its picturesque seasonal landscape. The design was originally based on the club’s previous outdoor wedding tent, which…

    Lofted clubhouse

A golf resort is adding a new clubhouse on par with its on-the-shore view. High above the shoreline of Torch Lake in northern Michigan, A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort’s clubhouse has stood watch over a panoramic view boasting of sprawling Independence Bentgrass fairways, enduring pine trees, sparkling water, and gurgling creeks for nearly 30 years. Originally built in 1986, the current clubhouse offers a view of both the 18-hole Torch Course and Torch Lake from its expansive wooden deck on A-Ga-Ming’s high bluff at 627 Agaming Drive in Kewadin. However, three decades later, the now 54-hole golf resort has outgrown the facility. Mike Brown, general manager and co-owner of A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort,…

The grand destination in northern Michigan

Grand Traverse Resort & Spa pampers guests with the whole vacation package.  The 17-story glass Tower at Grand Traverse Resort & Spa has become an iconic image set against a backdrop of 900 acres of sprawling greens, wooded trails, and the shimmer of sunlight dancing upon the East Grand Traverse Bay on the northwestern horizon. Much like the nature of glass used to adorn the façade of the Tower, Grand Traverse Resort & Spa’s interior is designed to reflect its natural surroundings in northern Michigan. Upon first entering the expansive resort lobby, guests are greeted by warm, soft hues of sandalwood and stone accents that create a luxurious, yet soothing…
